In the tradition of Wild and Tracks, My Year Without Matches: Escaping the City in Search of the Wild is Claire’s story of how she left the city and found her soul. Disillusioned and burnt out by her activist job, Claire quits a comfortable life to spend a year off the grid, building her own shelter, trapping food and lighting fires without matches. My Year Without Matches is the story of a young woman on a journey of self-discovery, seeking to live a wild and precious life.
A guest at the Tamar Valley Writer’s Festival, Claire will be in conversation with the Co-founder of pioneering tourism company Tarkine Trails.
This special event is a fundraiser for the not-for-profit Tarkine coast walk/wild school (details below).

Time: 7pm for 7.30pm start. Chai and book signings at close.
Cost: This event is a fundraiser for the Dooloomai Tarkine Wild School. Suggested donation of $5 (or more).

Dooloomai Tarkine Wild School - The Vision
1. The Tarkine coast walk
A five day, high end, not for profit accommodated walk running from Pieman heads up to Sandy Cape. Up to 10 people on each walk, 2 guides and a chef at each camp. Season runs November to April, one trip departs every day. All profits go into a pool to fund the "wild school"
2. The wild school
Aim: Restoring a nature/culture balance by making it possible for all people to immerse, transform and heal in wild and remote landscapes. For this transformation to be intentionally sewn back into culture, a conscious embodiment of the principles of nature.
What is it? A funded educational institution. Moneys from Tarkine coast walk profits, government/philanthropist contributions fund a diverse range of programs that target those most in need, kids at risk, drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
