Castlemaine Earth Skills Workshop
A family-friendly introductory course in wilderness survival skills, bush crafts, deep nature connection and outdoor confidence.

This workshop will include warm soup and damper for lunch and the possibility for poeple to stay until the evening to participate in fun games around a campfire. Should be great fun!
Facilitators:
Claire Dunn is a writer, educator, journalist and barefoot explorer. Claire worked for many years as an environmental campaigner with organisations such as The Wilderness Society, before turning her attention to the human-nature connection. In 2010, Claire embarked on a year of bush living, completing the ‘Guunuwa Independent Wilderness Studies Program’. Her recent book My Year Without Matches: Escaping the the City in Search of the Wild is a memoir of that journey. Claire is a passionate advocate for ‘rewilding’ our inner and outer landscapes, and facilitates deep nature connection workshops and rites-of-passage programs for kids and adults.
Mahli Hawke is a qualified school teacher who realised that wild nature was the best 'classroom' to work in. Growing up a coastal kid in Bondi, Sydney, he has been edging his way into the wild through courses and nature immersions with various 'schools' both in the UK and Australia. Along the way he has supported numerous youth, family and adult camps and workshops as he deepens his understanding of the process of reconnecting with our innate wildness. At the core he is determined to co-create 'wild village' experiences embedded in our natural world. With a love of imaginative storytelling, nature games and play, and the power of curiosity, he is most in his element guiding the young and young at heart.

Mirawara is a non-for- profit social enterprise based in Castlemaine. We are a bunch of passionate outdoor and environmental educators who want to promote connections and the creation of stories/culture between young people and nature through outdoor education activities such as rock-climbing, bushwalking, canoeing, bush skills, nature studies and much more. With a strong emphasis on community engagement, Mirawara hopes to develop deep and meaningful outdoor experiences for our young local community.
